Robert Świstelnicki - Piosenki Miłosne Wczesnej Postkomuny i Późnego Kapitalizmu I. Available from 9th September 2023 (SJRecords 075)
ALBUM OF YEAR 2023 - and Robert's lifetime achievement - according to Polish Jazz Blog's Maciej Nowotny!
Album available on CD and in streaming, as well as in Hi-Res WAV files (24 bit / 48 kHz) for download with artwork.
This album (the title of which can be translated as “Love Songs of Early Post-communism and Late Capitalism I”) dreams a dream about love in the times of a great transformation. The record fuses the voices of the most extraordinary Polish vocalists, such as Grażyna Auguścik, Jorgos Skolias, Wojciech Myrczek, with the talent of young, yet distinguished instrumentalists, such as Marcin Pater or Maciej Kitajewski. All the lyrics and most compositions are by Robert Świstelnicki. His poetry is deeply philosophical and symbolic and, in its own way, neo-romantic. The drum-less music, spacious, organic and sonically rich, is rooted in North European acoustic jazz, yet it bears traces of vintage Polish nostalgia and bluesy and hard-bop-inspired dirt. The aesthetics range from simple songs, through carefully composed pieces, all the way to open-ended free jazz. The album has been mastered by the legendary Christoph Stickel (Keith Jarrett, John Scofield, many orchestras) and mixed by Adam Munoz (Bill Frisell, Ambrose Akinmusire et al.)
Maciej Nowotny from Polish Jazz Blog recognized this album as the album of the year!!
