Trombonist Szymon Białorucki’s band The Forest Tuner eludes the mainstream of young contemporary jazz. The aptly named group draws joy and inspiration from contemplating the sounds of nature, and gives back music at one with this meditative spirit. Their melodies tell seemingly simple stories which allow listeners space to fill with their own interpretations.
Their debut album Tunes consists of nine compositions by Białorucki. The final piece is illustrated by an animated short by Marcin Podolec.
The Forest Tuner was awarded funds for the publication of Tunes by The Institute of Music and Dance, as part of the Jazz Phonographic Debut programme. The album premiered on 10 July 2016 at the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days.
