Silence is the most beautiful music, says the composer Zbigniew Preisner. The task of music is to adorn silence, frame it and highlight its beauty. in a decorative frame to highlight it appropriately. But silence can be in the way. “In loneliness, it can mock like laughter,” to quote Margo Zuber’s second song on the album, Speak to Me. Her debut album sings about both these aspects of silence. It soothes at times but also plucks sharply at strings of raw emotion that we would rather keep silent.

“Cisza” is Margo Zuber's debut album of original compositions. Meaning “silence”, it is about isolation and loneliness where the silence in your ears intertwines with a flood of fretful thoughts. The artist deals with this deluge by channeling it into music and lyrics - until quietude returns, however briefly. The resulting album encourages us to stop and relax and find a space for our own thoughts.

The Hammond organ - which also acts as the bass – joined by the piano is a unique pairing and this is the first such combination in Polish jazz. Combined with the extremely rare and low timbre of the contralto, the whole thing takes on a unique tone, used to great effect by the musicians.

The album was recorded in May 2023 at the Cavatina Studio by:

Margo Zuber - vocals

Kajetan Galas - Hammond organ

Mateusz Pałka - piano

Grzegorz Pałka - drums
